> > > Norwegian artist Hanne Friis > > The Norwegian artist Hanne Friis (* 1972, Oslo, Norway) walks the fine line between fine art and contemporary crafts. The exhibition "Contemporary Craft: Hanne Friis" offers an overview of the artist's extensive work for the first time in Germany. Even while studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Trondheim, Norway, Hanne Friis worked with a wide variety of materials: In addition to silk and wool, she uses foils, plastics and imitation leather, which create tension in her works. With a needle and nylon thread, Hanne Friis shapes textiles into three-dimensional, physical sculptures. She folds the fabrics into countless folds and sews them together using a specially developed embroidery technique to create landscapes whose color spectrum is reminiscent of impressionist painting. The nuances are created by dyeing the fabrics with local plants, fungi and lichens. Here, early works meet works created especially for the exhibition. The exhibition is the third part of the "Contemporary Craft" series, which the MK&G initiated in 2022 to present the work of important artisans. > > The exhibition is supported by the Hans Brökel Foundation for Science and Culture as well as by Norwegian Crafts , the Office for Contemporary Art Norway and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of the funding program for international arts and crafts projects. > >
