Kristian Juul was born, lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. His colorful abstract action-paintings, often using urban signatures of spray and graffiti, has been exhibited in Denmark and sold to collectors all over the world.

1. Paint with your body - not with your mind! Painting should be like dancing - a physical act of expressing yourself. Decouple your hand and eye from your conscious self. Why? Because you need to set yourself free from your inner censor by handing over the full control to your body!

2. Stop aiming your art to be "beautiful". Why? Because intentional beauty is the most boring of arts! Does it have to be ugly then? Maybe. Maybe something else beyond these concepts. The thing is, it makes no difference, as long as it is YOU, as long it's life.

3. Stop painting for an audience! Only paint to express your own unique voice. It's really quite simple - if you're not authentic in your art - why even bother? Why not ask an Al then? Life is short. As artists we're sparks that MUST glow as brightly and authentic as possible!

4. Don't fixate on getting a painting done. I used to proudly proclaim "done!" but then doubt always crept in. So today I never do that. If I feel like changing a "final" work I'll do that in an instant (unless it's sold). I don't care what it has been - or what I once thought about it. I care about it here and now!

5. Know your inheritance but don't be dragged down by it. By this I mean that it would be an inexplicable waste not to learn from the past masters. BUT as contemporary artists we cannot be satisfied just to inherit the view of art from past generations! No, your job is to find your own voice in your own time - and let your art speak from there!!! Nobody else can do that for you!
